New Councillors Tasked with Delivering Democratic Dividends

The Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has officially inaugurated newly elected councillors, urging them to prioritize grassroots development and remain committed to improving the welfare of residents across the council area.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Maikalangu emphasized the critical role councillors play in bringing government closer to the people. He called on the lawmakers to focus on projects and policies that directly impact communities, including infrastructure development, healthcare, education, sanitation, and youth empowerment.

Focus on Service Delivery
The AMAC chairman stressed that the success of local government administration depends largely on effective collaboration between the executive and legislative arms. According to him, residents expect tangible results from their elected representatives, particularly in addressing local challenges and improving living standards.
He urged the councillors to remain accessible to their constituents, listen to their concerns, and ensure that community needs are adequately represented in council deliberations and decision-making processes.

Commitment to Community Growth
Maikalangu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to accelerating development across AMAC, noting that sustainable progress can only be achieved through unity, accountability, and people-centered governance.

He encouraged the councillors to put aside political differences and work collectively toward advancing the interests of residents, describing grassroots development as the foundation of national growth and democratic governance.
Councillors Pledge Support
In response, the newly inaugurated councillors pledged to work closely with the council chairman to deliver meaningful development projects and strengthen governance at the grassroots level.
They assured residents of their commitment to transparency, accountability, and effective representation, promising to focus on initiatives that will improve the quality of life across the various wards within the area council.

The inauguration marks the beginning of a new legislative cycle within AMAC, with expectations high that the councillors will play a key role in advancing local development, promoting community engagement, and ensuring that government policies reflect the needs and aspirations of the people.
