ZLP Chairman Warns Against Excessive Political Praise Ahead of 2027 Elections

The National Chairman of the Zenith Labor Party (ZLP) has claimed that the actions of some supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are contributing to growing public dissatisfaction with the administration.

Speaking during a recent political discussion, the ZLP leader argued that excessive praise, aggressive political messaging, and the tendency to dismiss legitimate criticism are creating a negative perception of the President among many Nigerians.

According to him, supporters who portray every government policy as flawless may be doing more harm than good, particularly at a time when citizens are demanding solutions to pressing economic and security challenges.

Criticism and Democracy

The opposition leader emphasized that constructive criticism is an essential part of democratic governance and should not be viewed as hostility toward the government.

He argued that governments perform better when they listen to public concerns and engage with differing opinions rather than relying solely on praise from loyal supporters.

The ZLP chairman maintained that political leaders should remain open to feedback from citizens, civil society organizations, and opposition parties, especially on issues affecting daily life.

He suggested that some supporters’ constant defense of government policies, regardless of public sentiment, risks alienating ordinary citizens who expect practical solutions to their challenges.

Meanwhile, supporters of President Tinubu have consistently argued that the administration inherited significant economic and structural challenges and requires time to implement reforms.

They point to ongoing efforts in infrastructure development, investment attraction, economic diversification, and security reforms as evidence that the government is working toward long-term national growth.

Many government supporters also insist that criticism of the administration should be balanced with recognition of reforms already underway.
