Veteran Nigerian actor Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.

His death was announced by his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, and their son on social media on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

According to the family, the celebrated actor died on September 16, 2026, after a distinguished career spanning several decades in Nigerian and international film and television.

In a statement announcing his passing, the family described Jacobs as the “Lion of Lufodo”, paying tribute to his life and legacy.

“It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought, that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and uncle. The Lion of Lufodo. Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs (MFR). 11/07/1942 – 16/09/2026,” the family said.

The family also appealed to the public and the media to respect their privacy as they mourn the loss.

Jacobs, who was born on July 11, 1942, celebrated his 84th birthday in July.
