15 Killed in Fresh Gunmen Attacks Across Three Plateau LGAs

At least 15 people have been killed in separate gunmen attacks across Jos South, Mangu and Riyom Local Government Areas of Plateau State.

The attacks occurred on Sunday night, with nine passengers among those killed after suspected terrorists opened fire on a vehicle travelling to Jos at Dungus community in Jos South.

According to the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders, Rwang Tengwong, the incident occurred at about 9:40 p.m. as the vehicle was heading towards Jos.

Tengwong said the gunmen opened fire on the vehicle, killing several passengers and injuring others. One of the deceased was reportedly a member of Operation Rainbow.

A resident, Musa Dauda, also said some of the injured passengers were taken to hospital, where some later died while receiving treatment. Others remained hospitalized.

In Mangu Local Government Area, suspected terrorists reportedly attacked Vodni community in Pushit District, killing two people and injuring four others.

The injured victims were taken to a hospital in Mangu town for treatment.

Another attack was reported at Tahoos in Riyom Local Government Area, where two people were reportedly killed around the same period.

The incidents have heightened concerns over the security situation in Plateau State, particularly in communities that have experienced recurring attacks and clashes.

Residents and community groups have continued to call for stronger security measures to prevent further attacks and protect lives and property.

The latest violence also comes amid continued concerns over the safety of travellers using roads linking communities to Jos, with the attack at Dungus highlighting the risks faced by passengers travelling at night.

As of the time of filing, the Plateau State Police Command had not released an official statement on the reported attacks. The command’s spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, and Operation Enduring Peace Media Officer, Chinonso Oteh, were also yet to respond to requests for clarification.

Authorities are expected to provide additional information as investigations continue, and the full circumstances surrounding the incidents become clearer.
