The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo as campaign coordinators for the FCT, Osun and Anambra states, respectively, in its revised Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The appointments were contained in a revised list announced by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, ahead of the council’s inauguration scheduled for Wednesday at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The inclusion of the three politicians is notable because Wike belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adeleke is a member of the Accord Party, while Soludo is affiliated with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Adeleke was named ahead of former Osun State Governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, who leads the APC in the state.
Soludo, meanwhile, has previously expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, despite belonging to an opposition party.
Wike had also declared himself the field operations commander for the FCT before the APC released the revised campaign council list.
Under the new structure, Vice-President Kashim Shettima will serve as the first vice-chairman, while APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, will occupy the second vice-chairman position.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq have been named deputy vice-chairmen.
Former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, retains his position as Director-General of the campaign council.
Other deputy directors-general include Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni for the North, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele for the South, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin for the North, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu for the South. Senator Adams Oshiomhole will oversee mobilisation.
President Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, will serve as head of administration, while James Faleke will oversee election planning. Ibrahim Masari has been assigned responsibility for logistics and operations, with former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari heading parliamentary mobilisation.
Works Minister David Umahi will lead infrastructure mobilisation and sensitisation, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma will serve as secretary of the council. Basiru will be deputy secretary, and Hadiza Bala Usman will serve as assistant secretary.
The party also appointed zonal campaign coordinators, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the South-West, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah for the South-East, Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu for the South-South, Niger State Governor Umar Bago for the North-Central, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for the North-West, and Senator Ali Modu Sheriff for the North-East.
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori will head the finance and treasury directorate, while Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun will oversee fundraising. Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Atiku Bagudu will lead the policy and manifesto directorate, while Senior Advocate of Nigeria Muiz Banire will head the legal directorate.
The media and strategic communications directorate will be coordinated by Information Minister Idris Malagi, while Dele Alake will serve as the first presidential campaign spokesperson.
Other members of the communications team include Bayo Onanuga, Lere Olayinka, Ajuri Ngelale, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shitu, Bala Ibrahim, Adamu Fanda and Mohammed Garba.
The revised list also includes Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo and Dr Maryam Shetty. Kalu’s inclusion is expected to strengthen the party’s outreach in the South-East, where the APC has historically faced electoral challenges.
Shetty, a medical doctor and politician from Kano State, was included in recognition of her contributions to the party and the Tinubu administration, according to party insiders.
The APC said members of the Presidential Campaign Council were expected to attend the inauguration.
Umahi Says Tinubu Deserves Second Term Over Road Projects
Meanwhile, Umahi has argued that President Tinubu deserves another four-year term to complete the administration’s ongoing infrastructure projects and improve living conditions across the country.
The minister made the statement at the flag-off of the reconstruction and dualisation of the Lambata-Bida-Mokwa-Makera-Kontagora Federal Highway in Bida, Niger State.
Umahi said the administration had commenced the construction of approximately 5,100 kilometres of roads nationwide, adding that the projects would be completed during a second term if Tinubu wins re-election.
He maintained that the Federal Government was investing in road infrastructure across the country’s geopolitical zones, citing projects in Adamawa, Anambra and other states.
The minister also described the Niger highway project as a potential fifth legacy road project of the administration, highlighting its scale, the use of reinforced concrete pavement and the participation of the Dangote Group through the Federal Government’s infrastructure tax-credit scheme.
According to Umahi, construction would begin from four locations to accelerate delivery, with concrete pavement expected to be used instead of conventional asphalt.
Mondir Ahmed, a special adviser to the president of the Dangote Group, said the company was pleased to participate in the project, describing the highway as an important transport corridor for Nigeria’s economy.
Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago welcomed the project, saying it would improve transportation, connect communities and facilitate the movement of people and goods.
Bago also praised the Federal Government’s infrastructure investments in the state and pledged to mobilise substantial support for Tinubu in the 2027 election.
He said his administration had constructed more than 300 kilometres of roads, alongside several flyovers and underpasses, as part of its own infrastructure programme.
Umahi commended the governor’s efforts, arguing that the state government’s approach demonstrated a commitment to development beyond the division of responsibilities between federal and state authorities.
The APC’s revised campaign council appointments and the administration’s infrastructure push come as political parties and their supporters intensify preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
