A fire outbreak occurred on Monday morning at the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation located within the Federal Secretariat Complex Phase II in Abuja, prompting an emergency response from firefighters and security agencies.

According to official statements and sources familiar with the incident, the fire started at about 8:30 a.m. and affected the fourth floor of Block C, which houses the National Board for Technology Incubation.

Thick smoke was seen rising from the building as emergency responders rushed to the scene to contain the blaze. The situation initially caused concern among staff members and visitors within the Secretariat complex.

Emergency Protocols Activated

Upon discovery of the fire, the building’s emergency response procedures were immediately activated. Personnel from the Federal Fire Service and other emergency response units were swiftly mobilised to the scene.

Their prompt intervention helped to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other sections of the multi-storey government building.

Authorities confirmed that the quick response by firefighters played a crucial role in limiting the damage and ensuring the safety of workers within the facility.

No Casualties Recorded

Officials confirmed that no casualties were recorded during the incident and no lives were lost.

All staff members working on the affected floor were safely evacuated as emergency responders battled the fire. Civil servants and visitors were seen leaving the building calmly as safety protocols were implemented.

The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation emphasised that the safety and well-being of civil servants and visitors remain its top priority.

The Didi Esther Walson-Jack conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the scene shortly after the incident.

During her visit, she commended firefighters and other emergency responders for their swift and professional handling of the situation.

She also assured that the government would conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire and prevent similar incidents in the future.

Investigation and Damage Assessment Ongoing

Following the successful containment of the blaze, authorities secured the affected area while safety officials began evaluating the building.

A comprehensive assessment is currently underway to determine the extent of damage to offices and property on the affected floor.

Officials also confirmed that structural assessments would be carried out to ensure that the building remains safe for continued use by government workers.
