Health authorities are currently responding to a suspected hantavirus outbreak linked to a stranded cruise ship near Cape Verde, after reports emerged of multiple deaths and emergency evacuations onboard the vessel.

According to preliminary information from health officials and maritime sources, passengers and crew on the ship began experiencing severe flu-like symptoms, including fever, fatigue, and respiratory distress, prompting immediate concern. The situation reportedly escalated quickly, leading to emergency medical response teams being deployed and sections of the ship placed under strict isolation.

The suspected outbreak has raised alarm due to the nature of hantavirus, a rare but potentially deadly disease typically transmitted through contact with infected rodents or exposure to contaminated droppings and environments. In severe cases, the virus can lead to serious respiratory complications and organ failure, making rapid detection and containment critical.
