Vice President Kashim Shettima has reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to major infrastructure projects in Cross River State, particularly the proposed Bakassi Deep Seaport and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

Shettima described the projects as strategic investments expected to boost economic activities, attract private investment and improve the state’s position in Nigeria’s maritime and commercial sectors.

He gave the assurance during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar, where he urged residents to support the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu in the 2027 general elections.

The Vice President said the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway would improve transportation links between coastal communities, ease the movement of goods and services and create opportunities for tourism and commercial development.

He added that the project would generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs while encouraging investment in communities along the route.

On the proposed Bakassi Deep Seaport, Shettima said the Federal Government had approved the project, expressing optimism that its development would establish Cross River as an important maritime centre and gateway for international trade.

According to him, the seaport and coastal highway would expand economic opportunities, strengthen commercial activities and increase Cross River’s contribution to the national economy.

Shettima also highlighted the Tinubu administration’s interventions in the education sector, particularly the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which he said was introduced to improve access to higher education and reduce the financial pressure on parents and students.

He described the relationship between the Federal Government and the Cross River State Government as a partnership focused on shared development and economic prosperity.

The Vice President urged residents to maintain their support for the APC, calling on voters to renew the mandates of Tinubu and Otu in 2027.

He maintained that continued cooperation between the federal and state governments would accelerate infrastructure development and deliver further economic benefits to Cross River State.
