President Bola Tinubu, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former governor Ifeanyi Okowa have expressed condolences following the death of former Delta State Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan at the age of 71.

The leaders described Uduaghan’s death as a significant loss to his family, Delta State and Nigeria, recalling his contributions to governance, infrastructure development and healthcare during his years in public service.

In a condolence message shared on X by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu acknowledged Uduaghan’s service to Delta State before and during his tenure as governor.

The President recalled that Uduaghan served as commissioner for health and secretary to the state government before winning election as governor in 2007.

He noted that Uduaghan served two terms, leaving office in 2015, and described his administration as an important chapter in the state’s political and developmental history.

Tinubu said the former governor pursued initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, healthcare delivery and the welfare of residents.

“His passing is a great loss to his family, his community, Delta State, and the nation at large,” the President said.

Governor Oborevwori also mourned his predecessor, highlighting his contributions to human capital development and infrastructure across the state.

In a post on X, Oborevwori said Uduaghan placed considerable emphasis on investing in people, including public servants, and supported initiatives designed to improve the lives of residents.

He identified the Asaba International Airport as one of the enduring legacies of Uduaghan’s administration.

“As Governor, he believed in people and invested significantly in human capital development, both within and outside government. His love and compassion for others were truly remarkable. The Asaba International Airport stands as one of the enduring monuments to his legacy as Governor,” Oborevwori said.

Former governor Okowa equally expressed sadness over the death, praying for the repose of Uduaghan’s soul and expressing hope that his contributions to Delta State would continue to be remembered.

The three leaders extended their condolences to Uduaghan’s wife, Roli, his children, relatives, friends and political associates.

They also commiserated with his cousin, former Delta State Governor James Ibori, over the loss.

The leaders prayed for God to grant the deceased eternal rest and provide comfort and strength to his family and others mourning his passing.

Uduaghan governed Delta State from 2007 to 2015, having previously served in key government positions, including commissioner for health and secretary to the state government. His administration was associated with investments in infrastructure and healthcare, including the development of Asaba International Airport.
