The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has postponed the unveiling and inauguration of its National Campaign Council from October 20 to October 26, 2026, citing the overseas engagement of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The party announced the change in a statement issued on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, who attributed the postponement to Obi’s demanding schedule.

According to the statement, the presidential candidate has an important engagement abroad, necessitating the adjustment of the inauguration date.

“The shift is occasioned by the very tight schedule of our presidential candidate, His Excellency, Peter Obi, who has a very important engagement overseas,” the statement said.

The party apologised to its members, supporters and other stakeholders for any inconvenience caused by the change, urging them to remain focused on preparations for the forthcoming general elections.

The NDC also reaffirmed its commitment to securing victory for Obi and its other candidates, emphasising the importance of unity, sustained mobilisation and coordination ahead of the polls.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this shift, and urge everyone not to lose focus on the goal of ensuring victory for our presidential candidate and all NDC candidates in the forthcoming presidential and general election,” the statement added.

The inauguration of the National Campaign Council is expected to form part of the party’s preparations for its election campaign and mobilisation efforts nationwide.

The NDC reiterated its message to supporters, declaring, “A New Nigeria is Possible!”
