The Governorship Election Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has pledged to conduct a transparent, credible and peaceful governorship primary election, assuring party members and aspirants that the process will reflect fairness, internal democracy and the collective will of party stakeholders.

The committee gave the assurance ahead of today’s much-anticipated shadow poll, as political activities continue to intensify across the state in preparation for the next governorship election.

Speaking during interactions with journalists and party stakeholders before the commencement of the exercise, members of the election committee stated that all necessary arrangements had been concluded to ensure a smooth and orderly primary election across the various wards and local government areas in the state.

According to the committee, strict guidelines and monitoring mechanisms have been put in place to guarantee credibility and prevent irregularities that could undermine confidence in the process.

The officials explained that accredited party members would be allowed to freely participate in selecting the APC governorship candidate, stressing that the party remains committed to strengthening democratic principles within its internal structures.

They also assured aspirants contesting for the party’s governorship ticket that every contestant would be given a level playing field throughout the exercise.

The committee urged party loyalists, delegates, supporters and political stakeholders to avoid violence, intimidation and inflammatory actions capable of disrupting the process or creating tension within the party.

“The APC remains committed to a transparent and peaceful exercise that will produce a credible candidate acceptable to party members,” committee officials reportedly stated.

The governorship primary is expected to draw significant political attention across Kwara State, with several influential figures and political blocs within the party already mobilizing support ahead of the exercise.

Political observers say the outcome of the APC primary could play a major role in shaping political alignments in the state, especially as parties begin early positioning ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Kwara has remained one of the politically strategic states in North-Central Nigeria, with both ruling and opposition parties intensifying grassroots consultations and internal negotiations in recent months.

Analysts also note that governorship primaries in major political parties often serve as early indicators of the strength, unity and electoral readiness of political structures ahead of general elections.

The APC leadership in the state has repeatedly emphasized the need for unity among party members, particularly after internal disagreements and power struggles that have occasionally emerged within the party’s local structure.

Party stakeholders believe a peaceful and transparent primary election could help strengthen confidence among supporters and prevent post-primary disputes capable of weakening the APC’s electoral chances in the future.

Security agencies are expected to maintain a visible presence across key voting centers and party venues during the exercise to ensure law and order and prevent any breakdown of peace.

The committee also appealed to aspirants and their supporters to accept the outcome of the primary in good faith and priorities party unity over personal political interests.

With political momentum gradually building across the country ahead of future elections, today’s APC governorship shadow poll in Kwara is being closely monitored by party loyalists, opposition figures and political analysts alike.

Many residents and observers are expected to watch not only the outcome of the exercise but also how effectively the party manages internal competition, transparency and conflict resolution during the process.

As voting gets underway, expectations remain high that the APC will deliver a primary election capable of reinforcing public confidence in its internal democratic system and consolidating its political influence within Kwara State.
