Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has congratulated Barrister Sagir Gezawa Suleiman on his elevation to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), urging him to uphold integrity, professional ethics and the principles of justice.

Yusuf gave the charge on Monday during the swearing-in ceremony of 68 newly conferred Senior Advocates of Nigeria at the Supreme Court in Abuja. The ceremony also marked the commencement of the 2026/2027 legal year.

Gezawa was among the 68 recipients of the prestigious rank, comprising 67 legal practitioners and one academic, Professor Nnamdi Onyeka Obiaraeri.

The governor described Gezawa as a competent and principled legal practitioner, saying his elevation had brought honour to Kano State.

He urged the newly conferred SAN to maintain high professional standards and serve as a worthy ambassador of the state through integrity, diligence and commitment to justice.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, Yusuf said Gezawa’s achievement should encourage young lawyers across Kano State to pursue excellence through hard work, discipline and respect for the rule of law.

The governor also highlighted Kano’s record of producing distinguished legal practitioners, citing Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude and Aminu Gadanya, who attained the SAN rank in 2025, as well as Sunusi Musa and Abdul Adamu Fagge, who were elevated in 2024.

Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting institutions and initiatives that promote professional excellence, strengthen the administration of justice and advance human capital development.

He said the recognition of outstanding legal practitioners remained an important encouragement for aspiring lawyers and a boost to the development of the legal profession in Kano State and Nigeria at large.
