The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the death of a former zonal women leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi South, Mrs. Jemimah Dutse.
Dutse was reportedly found dead inside her residence in Muazu New Layout, Yelwa area of Bauchi metropolis, with injuries suggesting that she had been attacked by unknown assailants.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Nafiu Habib, said the command had commenced an investigation into the incident.
Habib said a resident of the area reported the case to the ‘E’ Division of the Bauchi State Police Command on October 3, 2026.
He explained that detectives were immediately deployed to the scene, where they documented evidence before the deceased’s body was taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, for medical examination and autopsy.
The police spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, had ordered the transfer of the case to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
According to him, the directive was aimed at ensuring a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding Dutse’s death and identifying those responsible.
The command expressed sympathy to Dutse’s family, friends and political associates, assuring them and residents of Bauchi that every effort would be made to uncover the circumstances of the killing.
Police also said the public would be informed of significant developments as the investigation progresses.
Meanwhile, the Bauchi State chapter of the Take-It-Back (TIB) Movement has condemned the killing and called for an immediate and thorough investigation.
In a statement signed by its Bauchi State Coordinator, Nazif Bashi, the group expressed concern over the incident and extended its condolences to Dutse’s relatives, friends and associates.
TIB described the killing as a disturbing act of violence and said it raised concerns about the safety of residents, particularly within their homes.
The group urged the police, Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to intensify efforts to identify, arrest and prosecute those responsible.
It also called for regular communication between security authorities, Dutse’s family and the wider public as the investigation continues.
TIB said justice must be pursued transparently and those found responsible should face the full consequences of the law.
The movement further appealed to the Bauchi State Government and security agencies to strengthen surveillance, intelligence gathering and other security measures across Bauchi metropolis and surrounding areas.
It also encouraged civil society organisations, labour groups, human rights advocates and residents to continue demanding accountability until those responsible for the killing are brought to justice.
