Prince Laja Adeoye has emerged as the consensus governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election, pledging to “reset Lagos” through reforms focused on infrastructure, housing, transportation, economic inclusion, and governance.

Adeoye, a real estate entrepreneur and businessman, secured the party’s ticket during the APM gubernatorial primary election held in Yaba, Lagos, where delegates and party stakeholders unanimously endorsed his candidacy through a consensus and affirmation process.

The primary election, monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), marked one of the early political developments shaping the build-up to the highly anticipated 2027 Lagos governorship race.

Consensus Emergence in Yaba

The Chairman of the APM Governorship Primary Electoral Committee in Lagos State, Mr. Godwin Williamson, confirmed that Adeoye was adopted as the party’s consensus candidate following consultations with delegates and stakeholders drawn from all 20 local government areas of the state.

According to party officials, the decision to adopt Adeoye was based on what they described as his leadership experience, private sector background, and vision for Lagos.

The affirmation process reportedly received wide support from party members present at the exercise, with supporters describing the emergence as a strategic move aimed at positioning the party for a stronger outing in the next governorship election.

Promise to “Reset Lagos”

Speaking after his emergence, Adeoye reportedly pledged to focus on rebuilding public confidence in governance while addressing key developmental challenges confronting Lagos residents.

He promised to prioritize urban renewal, affordable housing, improved transportation systems, environmental management, and youth empowerment if elected governor in 2027.

According to him, Lagos requires what he described as a “fresh direction” capable of balancing economic growth with improved living conditions for ordinary residents.

Political observers say the phrase “reset Lagos” is likely to become a central part of the APM’s campaign messaging as opposition parties seek to challenge the long-standing dominance of the ruling political structure in the state.

Lagos Remains Nigeria’s Political and Economic Powerhouse

Lagos State remains Nigeria’s commercial capital and one of the country’s most politically influential states, making every governorship election in the state highly competitive and nationally significant.

Over the years, the state has witnessed growing debates over issues including traffic congestion, housing shortages, flooding, taxation, infrastructure pressure, and rising living costs.

Analysts believe these issues will play a major role in shaping campaign conversations ahead of the 2027 elections.

Opposition Parties Intensify Preparations

The emergence of Adeoye comes as political parties across Nigeria begin early preparations and strategic positioning ahead of the next general election cycle.

Opposition parties are expected to intensify coalition talks, grassroots mobilization, and candidate consultations over the coming months as they attempt to strengthen their political presence in key states.

In Lagos, where the ruling party has maintained dominance for decades, analysts say opposition candidates may increasingly focus on governance reforms, urban challenges, and economic hardship in their campaigns.

Political Momentum Builds Ahead of 2027

Although the 2027 elections remain months away, political activities across Nigeria have continued to gather momentum, with governorship primaries, alliance talks, and internal party consultations already dominating political discussions.

Observers believe the coming political season could witness increased competition, shifting alliances, and more aggressive campaigns as parties seek to secure strategic advantages ahead of the polls.
