Sowore Says He Would Not Seek Medical Treatment Abroad If Elected President

African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has said he would not travel outside Nigeria for medical treatment if elected president in 2027.

Sowore made the statement during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, where he discussed his approach to public office and the use of government resources.

The AAC candidate said he would rely on Nigeria’s healthcare system and accept the consequences if a medical condition could not be treated within the country.

“Any sickness that I can’t treat in Nigeria when I become president should better kill me. I can tell you that for free,” Sowore said.

He also said he would not allow his family to become a financial burden on the country if he wins the presidential election.

According to Sowore, his focus as president would be on serving Nigerians rather than using the office to provide personal or family benefits.

The presidential candidate also questioned the constitutional basis for the position commonly referred to as the Office of the First Lady.

“There is no office of First Lady in the Nigerian Constitution,” he said, adding that becoming president would not affect his marriage but that he would not establish a formal First Lady office.

Sowore said women would continue to have a voice under his administration but argued that public funds should not be spent on an office he considers unconstitutional.

The AAC candidate is among those seeking the presidency in the 2027 general election.
