At least three people, including a three-year-old child, have been killed in an attack by suspected armed herdsmen on Omulonye community in Ugboju Icho, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The attack reportedly occurred on Wednesday evening, leaving several other residents injured. The injured victims were taken to an undisclosed hospital in Otukpo for medical treatment.
An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, alleged that the attackers were armed herdsmen who had been terrorising the area in recent times.
The witness confirmed that three residents were killed, including the young child, while others sustained injuries and were receiving treatment.
The spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, DSP Peter Orchia Aondongu, confirmed the incident, saying three people were killed in one of the communities in Ugboju, within Otukpo Local Government Area.
“Yes, I can confirm to you that three were killed in one of the communities in Ugboju, Otukpo Local Government Area,” he said.
The incident adds to security concerns in Benue State, where communities have continued to face attacks and violence. Further details about the circumstances of the attack and any arrests had not been provided at the time of filing this report.
