Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) “has not learnt,” as he reaffirmed his unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in Abuja, Wike said his decision to back Tinubu is neither new nor reactionary. He recalled that during the 2023 presidential election, he openly supported Tinubu despite being a prominent member of the PDP at the time. According to him, the opposition party failed to provide a credible and strategic alternative capable of winning national confidence, a shortcoming he believes persists.

“The PDP has not learnt from its mistakes,” Wike stated, arguing that internal missteps and what he described as a lack of inclusiveness continue to weaken the party’s political standing. He specifically faulted the PDP leadership for failing to consult key stakeholders, including himself, during critical candidate selection processes. That exclusion, he suggested, contributed to internal fractures that affected the party’s performance.

Wike made it clear that his political alignment transcends party labels, emphasizing that loyalty, competence, and national interest will guide his choices moving forward. He declared that any political candidate who supports Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 would have his backing, reinforcing his firm political stance as the next election cycle gradually takes shape.

On the February 21 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, Wike defended the movement restrictions imposed during the polls, describing them as necessary security measures aimed at ensuring order and credibility. He dismissed claims that the restrictions led to voter disenfranchisement, insisting that the process was conducted lawfully and within the framework of electoral regulations.

The elections saw the All Progressives Congress (APC) secure five of the six chairmanship seats, while the PDP claimed one seat, reflecting a strong showing by the ruling party in the nation’s capital.

As political calculations toward 2027 intensify, Wike’s latest remarks signal a clear and consistent position: his political tent remains firmly pitched with President Tinubu, regardless of party affiliations.
