1,500 Bauchi Farmers Receive Solar-Powered Irrigation Equipment

More than 1,500 farmers in the Darazo/Ganjuwa Federal Constituency of Bauchi State have received solar-powered irrigation equipment aimed at reducing farming costs and supporting year-round agricultural production.

The intervention was facilitated by the member representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Mansur Manu Soro.

Speaking on the initiative, Soro said each beneficiary received a DC solar-powered water pump along with three solar panels to provide an alternative to conventional fuel-driven irrigation systems.

He explained that the programme was designed to improve farmers’ access to irrigation water while reducing the cost of agricultural production and increasing crop yields across the constituency.

According to him, using solar energy for irrigation would enable farmers to cultivate their farms beyond the rainy season without depending heavily on petrol or diesel to power their water pumps.

Soro said the initiative was also intended to create more sustainable opportunities for farmers by helping them adopt renewable energy for agricultural activities.

“Turning sunlight into water, water into crops, and crops into income is the real story behind this initiative,” he said.

The lawmaker added that the distribution was part of efforts to provide practical support to farmers and promote sustainable agricultural development within the Darazo/Ganjuwa constituency.

He expressed optimism that access to solar-powered irrigation would help beneficiaries lower their operating expenses, improve productivity and increase their ability to sustain farming activities throughout the year.
