Veteran Nigerian actor Olu Jacobs has been laid to rest in Lagos following a funeral service attended by family members, friends, colleagues and dignitaries from the entertainment industry.

The funeral service was held at This Present House Church in Lekki, Lagos, on Thursday, before the late actor’s remains were taken to a private cemetery for burial.

Jacobs, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most respected actors and mentors in the performing arts, died on September 16, 2026, at the age of 84.

The ceremony brought together several personalities from Nollywood and beyond who gathered to honour the actor and celebrate his contributions to Nigerian theatre, film and television.

R&B singer Darey Art Alade performed his popular song, “Pray For Me,” during the service, with Jacobs’ wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, and other mourners joining in.

Another major moment was the presentation of Olu Jacobs’ biography by his son, Olugbenga Jacobs, highlighting aspects of the actor’s life and career.

The burial came a day after a Night of Tributes was held at Glover Memorial Hall on Lagos Island, where actors, filmmakers, friends and admirers shared memories of the late thespian and paid tribute to his legacy.

Olu Jacobs leaves behind a celebrated body of work and a lasting influence on generations of Nigerian actors and filmmakers.
