The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has called on refiners and depot owners across the country to reduce the price of petroleum products in line with recent improvements in market conditions and declining global crude oil prices.

The association said the appeal became necessary to ease the burden on consumers and businesses struggling with high transportation and energy costs amid ongoing economic challenges.

PETROAN argued that any reduction in production and supply costs should be reflected in the pump price of fuel, enabling Nigerians to benefit from favorable market developments.

According to the association, lower fuel prices would help reduce transportation expenses, moderate inflationary pressures, and improve the purchasing power of citizens already grappling with the rising cost of living.

The group emphasized that petroleum marketers, transport operators, manufacturers, and ordinary Nigerians would all benefit from a downward adjustment in fuel prices.

Fuel prices remain a major factor influencing the cost of goods and services across Nigeria. Analysts note that any significant reduction could have a positive effect on food prices, logistics costs, and overall economic activity.

PETROAN maintained that refiners and depot operators should take advantage of improved market conditions to support economic recovery and provide relief to consumers.

The association also stressed the importance of ensuring adequate fuel supply nationwide to prevent shortages and artificial price hikes.

The call comes amid increasing competition within Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector following the expansion of local refining capacity and ongoing efforts to strengthen domestic fuel production.

Industry observers believe that market competition could play a key role in determining future fuel prices, particularly as more locally refined products enter the market.

Many Nigerians have continued to express concern over fluctuating fuel prices, citing their direct impact on transportation, food costs, and household expenses.

Fuel prices remain one of the most closely watched economic indicators in Nigeria due to their influence on inflation and the cost of living. PETROAN’s appeal reflects growing expectations that improvements in market conditions should translate into lower costs for consumers.

PETROAN has urged refiners and depot owners to reduce fuel prices, arguing that Nigerians should benefit from favorable market trends and efforts to stabilize the country’s energy sector.
