Osun Election: Police Invite Senator Fadahunsi Over Alleged Inciting Remarks

The Osun State Police Command has invited Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East, for questioning over comments attributed to him during an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The invitation followed the circulation of a video on social media in which the senator was allegedly heard making remarks interpreted as a call for violence against members of the Accord Party during the electoral process.

The police said the footage raised serious concerns, particularly given the heightened political tension ahead of the August 15 poll.

The Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the senator had been asked to explain the circumstances surrounding the remarks and clarify what he intended by the statements attributed to him.

A police invitation letter dated August 11, 2026, directed Fadahunsi to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12.

The police said the invitation followed reports about remarks allegedly made by the senator at an APC campaign in Ilesa on Tuesday, which were subsequently shared on social media and other electronic platforms.

The police said Fadahunsi’s position would not prevent the authorities from investigating the matter, noting that anyone suspected of making potentially inflammatory remarks could be asked to explain their comments.

The development comes as security agencies step up efforts to prevent political violence and maintain peace ahead of the election, urging parties and their supporters to avoid inflammatory statements or actions.

Following the public reaction to the video, Fadahunsi’s team rejected the interpretation that he was encouraging physical violence against Accord members.

Fadahunsi’s team said his remarks were meant to urge APC supporters to defeat the Accord Party at the polls rather than through violence.

The police said Fadahunsi’s appearance would provide an opportunity for him to explain the context and meaning of the remarks attributed to him.

The investigation comes days before the August 15 Osun governorship election, with authorities facing increased pressure to prevent inflammatory rhetoric and maintain a peaceful electoral environment.

The police have urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to exercise restraint and avoid conduct that could heighten tensions or undermine the credibility of the poll.
