Opposition Lawmakers Berate Tinubu Over Worsening Insecurity, Economic Hardship

Opposition lawmakers in the National Assembly have criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over what they describe as the worsening state of insecurity and economic hardship across Nigeria, urging the Federal Government to take more decisive action to address the nation’s challenges.

The lawmakers expressed concern over the rising cost of living, persistent inflation, unemployment, and the continued wave of violent attacks, kidnappings, and communal clashes affecting several parts of the country. According to them, many Nigerians are struggling to cope with the economic realities brought about by recent policy reforms and the broader challenges facing the nation.

Speaking during separate engagements and parliamentary discussions, members of the opposition argued that the government must urgently review its strategies on security and economic management to ease the burden on citizens. They noted that despite assurances from the administration, many communities continue to face security threats while households grapple with soaring prices of food, transportation, and other basic necessities.

The lawmakers also called for increased investment in security infrastructure, improved intelligence gathering, and stronger coordination among security agencies to combat terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities. They stressed that protecting lives and property remains one of the primary responsibilities of government.

On the economy, the opposition urged the Federal Government to implement targeted relief measures for vulnerable Nigerians, support local businesses, and introduce policies capable of stimulating job creation and economic growth. They warned that prolonged hardship could further deepen public frustration and social unrest if urgent interventions are not introduced.

However, supporters of the Tinubu administration have defended the government’s policies, arguing that ongoing economic reforms are necessary to stabilize the economy and attract long-term investment. They maintain that while the reforms have created short-term difficulties, they are expected to yield positive results in the future.

The criticism comes at a time when Nigerians continue to debate the impact of key government policies, including fuel subsidy removal, exchange rate reforms, and efforts to tackle insecurity across different regions of the country.

The remarks by opposition lawmakers reflect growing political pressure on the Federal Government as millions of Nigerians continue to face economic challenges and security concerns.
