Adeleke Urges Tinubu to Ensure Free, Fair and Credible Osun Governorship Election

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure that the August 15 governorship election in the state is conducted in a free, fair and credible manner.

The governor appealed on Monday during his campaign rally at Olorunda Local Government Area in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, as political parties intensify campaigns ahead of the off-cycle governorship poll.

Adeleke called on the President to act as a statesman and uphold the integrity of the electoral process by ensuring that all relevant institutions operate impartially before, during and after the election.

The governor also urged security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to carry out their constitutional responsibilities professionally, stressing the need for a peaceful election that reflects the will of the electorate.

His appeal comes amid heightened political tension in the state following recent developments involving security operations and allegations of vote-buying, which have drawn reactions from both the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

The August 15 governorship election is expected to be closely contested, with the PDP seeking to retain power while the APC aims to reclaim the state.

INEC has continued preparations for the poll, assuring political parties and voters of its commitment to conducting a credible election in line with the Electoral Act and the Constitution.

Security agencies have also pledged to maintain law and order during the election, urging political parties and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully.
