Senator Hanga Leaves NDC, Declines To Reveal Next Party

Senator Rufai Sani Hanga has resigned from the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), ending his membership of the party without revealing his next political destination.

Hanga announced his resignation in a letter dated August 3, 2026, addressed to the NDC chairman in Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

In the letter, the senator said his decision was based on personal reasons, explaining that he needed to focus on personal engagements that had been affected by his political commitments.

His resignation comes amid growing speculation over his political future following reports of internal disagreements within the NDC in Kano State. Hanga lost the party’s ticket during its last primary election after the Kano Central Senatorial District nomination was awarded to Yusuf Gawuna.

Although he did not cite any dispute with the party or announce plans to join another political platform, his exit has intensified speculation about a possible move to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The speculation follows recent meetings between Hanga and prominent political figures, including APC National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. He also recently met with President Bola Tinubu, after which he stated during a radio interview that while he believed Tinubu would win the presidency, the President’s party could face challenges securing victory in Kano State.

Hanga has yet to make any official announcement regarding his next political step.
