The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will publish the final list of candidates contesting the 2027 governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed this during a world press conference in Abuja, according to a statement posted by the commission on X on Wednesday.
The publication will be another major step in the commission’s preparations for the 2027 general elections, as political parties await the formal confirmation of their candidates for the state-level contests.
INEC said 21 of the 22 registered political parties submitted candidates for the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.
According to the commission, the parties submitted a total of 936 candidates for governorship and deputy governorship positions, while 9,692 candidates were nominated for seats in the various State Houses of Assembly.
The electoral commission had previously published the personal details of the nominated candidates in line with the 2027 election timetable.
The final list is expected to take account of withdrawals, substitutions and other adjustments made by political parties during the nomination process.
INEC also disclosed that 18 of the 22 registered political parties submitted 36 presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2027 elections.
The final list of candidates for the National Assembly elections was published on September 12, 2026.
The publication of the governorship and State Assembly candidates on October 10 will provide voters with the official lineup of contenders ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development comes as INEC continues preparations covering the voter register, Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), election technology, logistics and funding ahead of the polls.
