Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general election, Peter Obi, has visited the headquarters of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in Abuja to condole with the service over the military aircraft crash in Ondo State.
Obi made the visit on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, where he met with the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, and signed the condolence register opened in honour of those who lost their lives in the incident.
He was accompanied by the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr Moses Paul, and other officials.
The NDC, in a statement shared on social media, said the visit was to express sympathy to the officers and men of the Nigerian Air Force following the loss of personnel and passengers in the crash.
The aircraft, identified as NAF 931, crashed on Monday, October 5, 2026, in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State while conducting a routine mission from Benin to Lagos.
According to the NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, 25 people were on board the aircraft, comprising five crew members and 20 passengers.
The Air Force said search and rescue operations were activated immediately after the crash, with relevant agencies involved in efforts to locate and account for everyone on board.
However, the military later confirmed that there were no survivors.
The incident has triggered mourning within the Nigerian military and among families of those who died, while authorities continue efforts to recover the wreckage and establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The NAF has also opened a condolence register at its headquarters in Abuja.
The register is available to senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, heads of security agencies and other well-wishers wishing to express sympathy to the families of the deceased and the Nigerian Air Force.
The cause of the crash has not yet been officially disclosed, as investigations into the incident continue.
