AMVCA 2026 set for a glamorous takeover as Don Julio steps in as headline sponsor

The stage is set for one of Africa’s biggest entertainment spectacles as the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards gears up for a dazzling return this time with a bold, luxury twist.

Organizers, MultiChoice Nigeria, have officially confirmed that AMVCA 2026 will take place on May 9, 2026, following a press conference in Lagos that unveiled what promises to be a more elevated and immersive celebration of African film and television.

If previous editions were known for glitz and glamour, this year’s event is clearly raising the bar.

In a major first, premium tequila brand Don Julio has been announced as the headline sponsor a move that signals a shift toward a more upscale, globally competitive entertainment experience. The partnership introduces a luxury edge to the awards, aligning with the growing international appeal of African storytelling.

Supporting brands, including Johnnie Walker and The Singleton, will also play key roles in shaping the overall experience, further reinforcing the premium tone of this year’s edition.

Speaking on the partnership, Segun Ogunleye, Head of Marketing for Africa Partner Markets at Diageo, highlighted the significance of the collaboration.

“This partnership reflects not only the strength and diversity of our brands but also our commitment to showing up for consumers in moments of celebration, recognition, and shared cultural pride,” he said.

Beyond the glitz, organizers are also doubling down on credibility and artistic excellence. Veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has been appointed Head Judge for the 2026 edition, bringing decades of industry experience to the role. Her leadership is expected to reinforce the awards’ focus on quality storytelling and technical brilliance.
