Flutterwave has appointed banking executive Guo Songmei as regional vice president of sales and partnerships for Greater China and Asia, as the Nigerian-founded fintech company moves to strengthen cross-border payment services between Asian businesses and African markets.
The company announced the appointment as it marks its 10th anniversary and seeks to expand its presence in trade-related payments between the two regions.
Songmei will be based in Shenzhen, China, and Hong Kong, where she will oversee commercial growth, develop strategic payment partnerships and strengthen financial connections between Asia and Africa.
According to Flutterwave, businesses in East Asia processed nearly $1 billion in transactions through its platform in the first half of 2025 while serving customers across Africa. The company said the figures reflect growing demand for payment solutions that support international trade.
In her new position, Songmei will lead efforts to expand enterprise payment services, including multi-currency accounts, local payout networks and compliant settlement solutions across more than 30 African markets.
She brings more than 20 years of experience in corporate and commercial banking across Africa and Asia, with expertise in developing China-focused banking operations, cross-border financing and international business partnerships.
Before joining Flutterwave, Songmei served as executive director for Greater China sales and business development at a Malaysia-based software-as-a-service and payment orchestration company. In that role, she managed market expansion, enterprise merchant acquisition and distribution partnerships with licensed non-bank payment providers.
Her previous experience includes establishing China Business franchises at Stanbic IBTC and Access Bank in Nigeria, where she helped facilitate cross-border transactions approaching $1 billion and structured supply-chain and infrastructure financing arrangements.
She also managed Chinese corporate clients across West Africa for Standard Chartered Bank in Ghana and held senior corporate banking positions at HSBC in China and OCBC Bank in Malaysia and Singapore.
Flutterwave founder and chief executive officer, Olugbenga Agboola, said the appointment would support the company’s ambition to strengthen payment channels connecting international trade with African markets.
The company’s strategy focuses on helping Asian businesses collect payments, make local disbursements and settle transactions across African countries through its payment infrastructure.
Songmei said businesses operating between Asia and Africa require dependable payment systems that reduce currency-related challenges and make foreign exchange and settlement processes more predictable.
She added that she would work with Flutterwave’s global teams and institutional partners to expand enterprise payment services and facilitate cross-border trade.
The appointment follows the company’s recent recruitment of Morounke Olufemi as global chief financial officer, as Flutterwave continues to strengthen its executive leadership and operational governance.
Flutterwave operates in 34 African countries, providing payment services to local and international businesses through a single application programming interface (API).
The company said it has processed more than one billion transactions valued at over $50 billion. Its services include card payments, bank transfers, mobile wallets and international money transfers through Send App, which enables diaspora customers to send money to African countries.
