The Jigawa State Government has approved ₦977.97 million for the establishment of a computer-based test (CBT) centre at the College of Health Sciences, Jahun, and the construction and equipping of computer laboratories in four secondary schools.
The approval was announced by the state Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport and Culture during a briefing on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting.
The projects are part of Governor Umar Namadi’s education transformation agenda, which focuses on improving school infrastructure, integrating technology into learning and equipping students with skills required in the digital economy.
The government said the investments would expand access to modern educational facilities, strengthen digital learning and improve students’ preparedness for computer-based examinations.
In a related development, the State Executive Council approved ₦380.14 million for the supply and installation of solar-powered systems at Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centres across the state.
According to the commissioner, Sagir, the project will cover centres in several locations, including Marke, Auyo, Dutse, Kazaure, Lafiya Guri, Madobi Dutse, Malam Madori, Danzomo, Sule Tankarkar, Kaugama, Kafin Hausa, Garki, Miga, Birnin Kudu, Ringim, Bulangu and Kanya Babba in Babura Local Government Area.
The solar installations are intended to provide a more reliable electricity supply, reduce dependence on conventional power sources and improve the delivery of digital services and ICT training.
The government said the intervention would also minimise disruptions caused by power outages, allowing the centres to operate more efficiently and provide a better environment for digital literacy programmes, skills development and youth empowerment.
The new CBT facility at the College of Health Sciences, Jahun, is expected to strengthen the institution’s capacity to conduct computer-based assessments and examinations while improving students’ access to modern testing facilities and digital learning resources.
The combined investments reflect the Jigawa State Government’s efforts to expand digital infrastructure and improve the quality of education through technology-driven learning.
The administration is seeking to strengthen students’ digital skills and prepare young people for emerging employment and economic opportunities in an increasingly technology-dependent world.
