The Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) has recognised the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) for securing Nigeria’s first-ever qualification for an Olympic beach volleyball event.
The historic qualification guarantees Nigeria a place in the beach volleyball competition at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, marking a major achievement for the country’s volleyball development.
Receiving the honour, NVBF President, Engineer Musa Nimrod, thanked the CAVB leadership, headed by President Bouchra Hajij, for acknowledging the federation’s efforts.
Nimrod described the award as an important boost for Nigerian volleyball, noting that the recognition would motivate athletes, coaches and officials to work towards greater achievements ahead of the Los Angeles Games.
He said the honour would encourage the federation to intensify its preparations and strengthen its commitment to developing the sport at all levels.
The CAVB Beach Volleyball Commission President also announced plans for an extensive 2027 competition schedule aimed at providing African beach volleyball players with more opportunities to compete internationally.
According to him, the programme will focus on increasing players’ exposure to high-level competition while giving them the experience and preparation needed to compete successfully on the global stage.
In addition to the Olympic qualification recognition, the Nigeria Volleyball Federation received a Special Award of Excellence for its activities throughout the year and its continued efforts to promote grassroots volleyball development.
The recognition further underlines Nigeria’s growing influence in African beach volleyball as the federation begins preparations for the country’s historic Olympic appearance in Los Angeles in 2028.
