Lagos, Kano and Kaduna have recorded the highest numbers of registered voters in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, according to figures released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed the latest figures on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, in Abuja while providing an update on the country’s voter register.

Amupitan said Nigeria’s register now contains about 110 million registered voters, describing the figure as the largest voter population in Africa.

Lagos leads the country with 7,488,633 registered voters, followed by Kano with 6,570,276 and Kaduna with 4,662,640.

Katsina occupies fourth position with 3,876,051 voters, while Rivers has 3,736,434.

Oyo follows with 3,588,111 registered voters, ahead of Delta with 3,525,988 and Benue with 3,057,225.

Ogun recorded 3,037,981 voters, while Bauchi completes the top 10 with 3,012,547 registered voters.

The latest figures come after INEC concluded a three-phase Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise and carried out a biometric verification and cleanup of the voter database.

The three phases produced a combined 10,772,421 new registrations.

The first phase, which ran from August 25 to December 10, 2025, recorded 2,611,266 registrations.

The second phase, conducted between January 5 and April 17, 2026, added 4,121,835 registrations, while the third phase, held from May 11 to July 26, recorded another 3,867,997.

INEC has since closed the nationwide registration exercise, which ended on July 26. The commission has also warned Nigerians against a fake online platform claiming that voter registration has reopened.

Meanwhile, INEC has revised the timetable for the 2027 general elections following changes to Nigeria’s electoral legislation.

Under the current schedule, the presidential and National Assembly elections will hold on January 16, 2027, while the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.

The presidential and National Assembly elections were initially scheduled for February 20, while the governorship and State Assembly polls were earlier fixed for March 6.

INEC has also published a final list of 18 presidential candidates for the 2027 election, comprising 16 men and two women.

With the voter registration exercise concluded, attention is now shifting towards the final preparations for the 2027 polls and the participation of the more than 100 million registered voters nationwide.
