Nigeria Defeat Ghana 4-2 in Thrilling WAFU B U-20 Clash

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles began their campaign at the WAFU B U-20 Championship with an impressive 4-2 victory over Ghana’s Black Satellites in their opening Group B match on Monday in Côte d’Ivoire.

The defending champions made a bright start, taking the lead in the sixth minute through Olayemi Ayinla, whose powerful strike beat the Ghanaian goalkeeper.

Ghana responded in the 23rd minute, with Mohamed Zaidan drawing the Black Satellites level to set up an entertaining contest.

Nigeria regained the lead seven minutes later when Lucky Oraro’s free-kick was deflected into the net, restoring the Flying Eagles’ advantage.

The Flying Eagles extended their lead before the break as Muiz Adeleke calmly converted a penalty in the 38th minute, giving Abdul Maikaba’s side a 3-1 halftime lead.

After the restart, Ghana pulled one back through Kelvin Nkrumah, who converted a penalty in the 60th minute to reduce the deficit and keep the Black Satellites in the contest.

However, Nigeria sealed the victory in the closing stages when Adeleke converted his second penalty of the match in the 89th minute, securing a deserved 4-2 win for the Flying Eagles.

The victory gives Nigeria an important three points as they continue their quest to retain the regional title.

The Flying Eagles will return to action on Thursday, July 30, when they face Togo’s Junior Sparrow Hawks at the Yamoussoukro Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Nigerian time.
