Nigeria will field 10 boxers at the inaugural African Boxing Elite Championships scheduled to take place in Nairobi, Kenya, from October 15 to 28, 2026.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) announced on Monday that the Nigerian contingent would comprise 19 delegates, including five male and five female boxers competing across different weight categories.

According to a statement signed by Kola Daniel, Special Assistant on Media to the NSC Director-General, the team is expected to depart Nigeria on Tuesday, October 13, and arrive in Nairobi the following day ahead of the competition.

The championship will bring together some of Africa’s leading boxers, providing Nigerian athletes with an opportunity to test their skills against top-level opponents from across the continent.

The NSC said the competition would also give the boxers valuable international exposure and a platform to showcase Nigeria’s strength and depth in the sport.

The commission expressed confidence in the team’s preparations and urged the athletes to approach the championship with discipline, determination and a strong competitive spirit.

It also wished the contingent success, encouraging its members to uphold Nigeria’s reputation in sports and represent the country with pride.

Nigeria’s participation in the maiden edition of the championship forms part of broader efforts to strengthen the country’s standing in African boxing and create more opportunities for local athletes to compete at the international level.

The competition will run until October 28, with elite boxers from across Africa expected to compete for honours in their respective weight categories.
