The Ogun State Police Command has presented cheques worth a combined N37.9 million to families and next-of-kin of police officers who died while in service.

The payment was made through the Nigeria Police Force Group Life Assurance Scheme, an initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, aimed at providing financial support to families of deceased personnel.

The cheques were presented on Monday at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, was represented at the event by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, DCP Oliver Ezirim. Other members of the command’s management team also attended the presentation.

Speaking during the event, the command said the financial support could not compensate for the loss of the officers, but represented the Nigeria Police Force’s recognition of their service and sacrifices.

The command also reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of the families left behind, stressing that relatives of deceased officers remain part of the police family.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs John Shito expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the Ogun State Command for the assistance.

She assured the police authorities that the funds would be used responsibly for the benefit of the beneficiaries.
