The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, Emmanuel Usman, for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl in Ijebu-Owo, located in Owo Local Government Area.

The Command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Akure. He stated that the incident was reported by the victim on March 29.

According to the statement, the victim alleged that the suspect forcefully dragged her into his employer’s office along Ijebu-Owo, where he had unlawful carnal knowledge of her without her consent.

She further claimed that the suspect threatened her with severe consequences if she revealed the incidentan attempt to intimidate and silence her.

Despite the threats, the victim reported the case to the police, prompting immediate action by operatives. The suspect was subsequently arrested and is currently in custody, having provided a statement to aid ongoing investigations.

Jimoh confirmed that the case is being handled by the Command’s Gender-Based Violence Unit and that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The victim has been taken to the General Hospital, Owo, where she received necessary medical attention. Authorities are also exploring additional psychosocial support measures to ensure her well-being throughout the legal process.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, has directed that the case be handled with urgency, diligence, and sensitivity to ensure justice is served.

The Command reiterated its commitment to combating sexual and gender-based violence and strongly condemned acts of abuse against minors.
