Growing tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel are expected to dominate discussions at the upcoming BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting in India, as world leaders closely monitor the escalating crisis in the Middle East and its wider impact on global stability.

The high-level meeting, scheduled to take place in New Delhi, comes at a sensitive moment for the BRICS alliance, which now includes newer member states such as Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Indonesia alongside founding members Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

Diplomatic tensions have intensified following the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, with reports suggesting Tehran is pushing BRICS members to take a stronger collective stance against U.S. and Israeli military actions in the region.

India, which currently holds the BRICS chairmanship, is expected to play a central diplomatic role as it attempts to balance competing political interests within the bloc while maintaining strategic relationships with both Western nations and Middle Eastern partners. Analysts say the situation represents one of the most significant foreign policy tests for New Delhi in recent years.

The growing instability in the Middle East has also raised major economic concerns among BRICS nations, particularly regarding global oil supplies, energy prices, and shipping security through the Strait of Hormuz — one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes. Several countries within the bloc rely heavily on stable energy imports from the Gulf region.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov are expected to participate in the meeting, while other major powers within the alliance are reportedly seeking consensus on a joint statement addressing the regional crisis. However, diplomatic divisions among BRICS members could make unified action difficult.

Political observers say the crisis is exposing internal tensions within BRICS itself, especially as member countries hold different positions on the conflict and maintain varying alliances with global powers. Some experts believe the outcome of the meeting could influence how BRICS positions itself as a major voice for emerging economies and the Global South in an increasingly polarized international landscape.
