The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a six-man kidnapping gang allegedly involved in the abduction of a man in Port Harcourt.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Blessing Agabe, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday.
According to the police, the victim, identified as Hassan, was kidnapped on September 6, 2026, near Fidelity Bank in the Garrison area of Port Harcourt.
He was reportedly taken to Igbugulu Waterside in Borikiri, where he was held captive for three days. His relatives later paid N10.3 million in ransom before he was released.
The police said it received information about the abduction on September 7 and deployed operatives from the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU-AKU) to investigate the case.
Following an intelligence-driven operation, the operatives arrested two suspects believed to be members of the kidnapping syndicate.
The command said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects admitted to participating in the alleged crime and provided information about the gang’s operations.
Investigators also discovered that the syndicate consists of six members who allegedly used a white minibus during the abduction.
The police said efforts were underway to locate and arrest the four other suspects who remain at large.
The Rivers State Police Command assured residents that it would sustain its operations and intelligence gathering efforts until all those linked to the kidnapping are apprehended and brought before the law.
