A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State, Professor Aminu Ibrahim, has joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ibrahim, a former rector of Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic and a professor of mathematics at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, announced his defection at a ceremony held in the state capital.
He said his decision to join the APC was driven by his desire to contribute to the development of Sokoto State, particularly in education and other key sectors of the economy.
The academic explained that he considered it his responsibility to use his knowledge and professional experience to improve the welfare of residents and support the state’s progress.
Sokoto APC Chairman, Haruna Sarkin-Gobir Adiya, welcomed Ibrahim into the party, describing his defection as a significant addition to its membership.
Adiya urged the former rector to work closely with existing party members to strengthen unity and cooperation as the APC prepares for the 2027 elections.
Ibrahim’s move comes amid growing political realignments in Sokoto State, where parties are working to consolidate their support bases ahead of the next general elections.
