US Moves To Revoke Citizenship Of 2 Nigerians, 38 Others Over Alleged Fraud

The United States government has begun legal proceedings to revoke the citizenship of two Nigerians and 38 other naturalised citizens over alleged fraud and serious criminal offences.

The US Department of Justice said on Monday, October 5, 2026, that it had filed denaturalisation complaints in several federal courts between August 21 and October 2.

According to the department, the affected individuals allegedly provided false information about their criminal records, immigration histories or identities while applying for US citizenship.

Two Nigerians, Douglas Chukwuka Eze and Beatrice Chioma Nwaoha Ashamole, were named in court filings in Maryland.

Court documents allege that Eze obtained immigration benefits using a stolen identity, while Ashamole allegedly failed to disclose previous arrests, aliases and deportation orders during her naturalisation process.

US Attorney General Todd Blanche said the government would continue pursuing cases against naturalised citizens who obtained citizenship through false information or are considered security threats.

Denaturalisation is the legal process through which the US government seeks to strip a naturalised citizen of citizenship after establishing that it was obtained unlawfully or through fraud.
