The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has commenced preparations for the 2027 general elections by directing its state and Local Government Area (LGA) chairmen to begin compiling and coordinating lists of party polling agents across the country.

The party has given its state and LGA structures two weeks to submit the completed lists for review and approval by the national leadership.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC instructed state and LGA chairmen to meet with candidates and other relevant stakeholders to identify and harmonise the party’s representatives for the elections.

Director said the process was being carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.

The party said two separate categories of agents would be selected: one to oversee the National Assembly elections and another for the governorship and State House of Assembly elections.

According to the NDC, the proposed lists will undergo review and approval by the party leadership, including its presidential candidate and running mate, before the selected agents receive training.

The party also directed that the final nominations be endorsed by the relevant state chairmen and candidates as a way of confirming the selections.

It further stated that where disagreements occur between candidates and party officials over the selection of agents, the candidate’s preferred nominees would be given priority.

The NDC said the mobilisation exercise was part of its broader preparations for the 2027 elections and assured members and supporters that its structures were being strengthened ahead of the campaign.

Director said the party was prepared to conduct an issue-focused campaign, adding that the necessary structures were being put in place for the electoral contest.
