The Presidency has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu can continue to perform his constitutional duties from anywhere in the world, stressing that his authority is not dependent on his physical presence in Nigeria.
Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, made the clarification in a post on X on Monday while responding to questions from opposition figures about who is currently in charge of the country as both Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are outside Nigeria.
Bwala described the questions as unnecessary, arguing that the President’s ability to govern is not restricted by his location.
He said Tinubu retains the constitutional authority to exercise his presidential responsibilities even when he is outside the country.
According to Bwala, the President’s powers are not determined by geographical boundaries, meaning his absence from Nigeria does not prevent him from directing the affairs of government.
His comments come as Tinubu and Shettima are both currently abroad, prompting opposition figures to raise questions about the leadership of the country in their absence.
