Health professionals in Katsina State have declared a seven-day warning strike over the state government’s alleged failure to address their demands.
The Assembly of Health Care Professionals in Katsina State announced the industrial action on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, following the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum issued to the government.
Speaking to journalists, the association’s chairman, Comrade Ibrahim Balange, said the strike would begin at midnight on Wednesday.
Balange explained that the association had formally notified the state government of its planned action in a letter dated October 7, 2026. However, he said most of the workers’ demands remained unresolved despite the expiration of the ultimatum.
According to him, the decision followed repeated attempts by the association to engage the government in dialogue and reach a peaceful resolution of the issues affecting health professionals in the state.
The association said its members had remained patient and committed to constructive engagement but could no longer accept further delays in addressing their concerns.
It described the strike as a response to what it called the government’s failure to meet its obligations to health workers, stressing that the action did not mean the association had abandoned dialogue.
Balange added that the strike could have been avoided if the government had intervened promptly and taken concrete steps to resolve the outstanding issues.
The association expressed regret over the inconvenience the industrial action might cause the government and members of the public. It also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare, rights and professional interests of its members.
