Army Rescues Two Abducted Victims in Taraba Security Operation

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke have rescued two kidnapped victims during a security operation in Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The victims were freed during a fighting patrol launched in response to credible intelligence on kidnapping activities within the Lande Jessi general area.

According to a statement issued by the Brigade’s Public Relations Officer, Lieutenant Umar Mohammed, the operation was carried out in the early hours of July 26, 2026, after reports that armed criminal elements had invaded Tashan Musa and Barkindan Fulani villages, abducting two residents and making away with food items.

Acting on the intelligence, troops conducted targeted search-and-rescue operations across key locations in the area and successfully rescued the victims, identified as Usman Mohammed and Usman Harusu, who had reportedly been held captive for about a week.

The Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their swift response, professionalism, and resilience.

He said the successful operation reflects the military’s commitment to protecting lives and property and combating criminal activities across Taraba State.

Brigadier General Akaliro added that the operation aligns with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, to intensify efforts against criminal elements and restore lasting peace across the country.

He urged troops to sustain the momentum in ongoing operations while encouraging members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence.
