Notorious bandit commander Kachalla Mu’azu and six members of his group have reportedly been killed during a confrontation between rival armed groups in Zamfara State.
Counter-terrorism analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the incident in a statement shared on X on Wednesday.
According to Makama, the clash took place at about 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, around Mada in Gusau Local Government Area.
He said Mu’azu and his associates were travelling back from Yankara Market when they were attacked by members of a rival group who had reportedly ambushed them along the route.
The confrontation reportedly resulted in the deaths of Mu’azu and six other members of his group.
Makama described Mu’azu as a prominent bandit commander allegedly involved in criminal activities and attacks across communities in Gusau and other parts of Zamfara, as well as neighbouring Katsina State.
He said the reported death of the commander could affect the activities of armed groups operating around the Gusau axis, although it was too early to determine whether the incident would bring any immediate improvement to the security situation.
Mada, according to Makama, is located in the eastern part of Gusau Local Government Area, approximately 32 kilometres from Gusau town, while Yankara lies along the Gusau-Funtua route.
He added that security agencies were expected to maintain surveillance in the area and gather more information on the groups involved in the confrontation.
The incident comes amid persistent security challenges in Zamfara, where bandit groups continue to be linked to kidnappings, attacks and other criminal activities across several communities.
