The Bauchi State Government has joined the global observance of the 2026 World Contraception Day with a campaign focused on improving awareness and access to family planning, childbirth spacing and reproductive health services.

The campaign was organised by the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Board (BSPHCB) in partnership with the Society for Family Health (SFH) under its Delivering Innovation in Self-Care (DISC) 2.0 Project.

Held under the theme, “No Barriers, Just Choices: Contraceptive Access,” the campaign highlighted the importance of making reliable contraceptive information and services available to individuals and families.

As part of the activities, health officials, partners and other stakeholders held a road walk through parts of Bauchi metropolis to educate residents on the benefits of family planning, healthy childbirth spacing and reproductive healthcare.

The awareness walk ended at the Bayan Fada Primary Healthcare Centre, where an outreach programme was organised for members of the community. The programme included health education, counselling and access to family planning services.

Speaking to journalists, the SFH-DISC 2.0 State Programme Adviser, Pharmacist Alhamdu Nufin Allah, said the initiative was aimed at bringing family planning information closer to communities and encouraging residents to make informed decisions about their reproductive health.

He explained that the DISC 2.0 Project supports self-care solutions that work alongside existing healthcare services, while giving individuals greater access to information and options for managing their health.

Nufin Allah also emphasised the importance of partnerships between government agencies, healthcare organisations and development partners in expanding the reach of reproductive health programmes.

The Executive Chairman of the BSPHCB, Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, represented at the event by the Director of Primary Health Care, Dr. Sufyan Ahmed Jibrin, said the state government remained committed to improving access to family planning and reproductive health services.

Jibrin said the government was strengthening health facilities and community-based interventions to ensure residents receive accurate information and quality services.

He also appreciated SFH-DISC 2.0 and other development partners for their contributions towards improving healthcare delivery across the state.

Other activities marking the World Contraception Day included a media briefing, outreach and in-reach services, a live radio programme on childbirth spacing and a town hall meeting involving health stakeholders and community representatives.

The activities provided opportunities for public education, community engagement and access to reproductive health services across Bauchi.
