The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has identified Nigerian technology company Milsat as the firm behind the technology powering Nigeria’s newly launched National Digital Postcode system.
Tijani disclosed this on Tuesday in a post on X, days after the Federal Government officially launched the digital postcode system on October 1.
Milsat was founded by Taslim Saluadeen and Adedamola Baderinwa. The minister also recognised the contributions of Meeds Network Limited and the National Population Commission to the development of the system.
According to Tijani, Milsat’s involvement dates back to a pilot project delivered in 2023 before the company went on to develop the technology supporting the nationwide postcode platform.
He said the project demonstrates the capacity of Nigerian technology companies to develop solutions for local challenges while building expertise that can be applied beyond the country.
Tijani noted that Milsat has also used geospatial technology in several public-sector initiatives and expanded some of its capabilities into other African countries.
The minister disclosed that the company worked with the National Population Commission to map more than 65 million properties ahead of Nigeria’s planned first digital census.
Milsat has also deployed enumeration area demarcation technology in Sierra Leone, according to Tijani.
The minister thanked the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), Meeds Network Limited and the National Population Commission for their roles in developing the new addressing system.
The National Digital Postcode project followed the Federal Executive Council’s approval earlier in 2026 of a GIS-enabled alphanumeric postcode system aimed at modernising Nigeria’s addressing infrastructure.
The Federal Government subsequently announced plans to launch the system in October and began coordinating key agencies, including the National Identity Management Commission, Corporate Affairs Commission and NIPOST, as part of efforts to establish a more integrated digital addressing framework.
The system was officially launched on October 1, 2026, with NIPOST responsible for operating the platform.
Under the new system, addressable buildings are assigned an 11-character digital postcode designed to improve location identification and support services such as deliveries, emergency response, e-commerce and public service delivery.
