Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has renewed his criticism of Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, dismissing calls for an apology over his recent social media post involving the governor’s academic record.
Davido spoke on Tuesday while addressing journalists at the country home of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, in Ede. The singer was asked whether he regretted posting what appeared to be Okpebholo’s West African Examinations Council (WAEC) result.
He rejected the idea of apologizing, saying his action was intended to draw attention to information about the governor.
“I’m not going to apologize. I didn’t do anything wrong. I was telling people of the state the result their governor has,” Davido said.
The singer subsequently aimed Okpebholo over his involvement in the Osun election campaign and his criticism of Governor Adeleke.
According to Davido, the Edo governor had no basis to question his uncle’s leadership while allegedly engaging in political activities outside his state.
“You left your state, came to another state, to rig o,” he said.
Davido also challenged Okpebholo’s electoral credentials, alleging that the governor did not genuinely secure the mandate that took him into office.
“You didn’t win those votes, sir. You don’t know what it is to win an election,” he said.
He further criticised the condition of the road leading to the Edo State Government House, declaring, “The road to your government house is not done.”
Davido also accused Okpebholo of disrespecting his uncle, saying he was particularly concerned about the governor’s comments against a sitting governor in his own state.
The singer went on to mock Okpebholo over reports concerning his accommodation, saying, “A whole governor staying in a hotel, walking around a hotel.”
He then told the Edo governor to concentrate on completing his tenure, adding that he would face another political test when the time comes for re-election.
“Anyhow, sir, finish your three years. We will visit you when it’s time for you to get reelected,” Davido said.
The latest exchange follows a political disagreement that intensified during the build-up to the August 15 Osun governorship election.
Okpebholo had campaigned for the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, while taking jabs at Adeleke over his dancing and approach to governance.
Davido, who openly backed his uncle during the election, responded by posting what appeared to be Okpebholo’s WAEC result on Instagram.
The post sparked widespread reactions, with some Nigerians describing it as inappropriate and urging the singer to apologize.
Davido has instead doubled down on his position, with his latest remarks adding another chapter to the increasingly heated public dispute between the musician and the Edo governor.
