The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has intensified surveillance across airport operations following the confirmation of an Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) case in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), assuring passengers of its commitment to protecting public health.

The authority said it was collaborating with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Port Health Services, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and other relevant agencies to support ongoing efforts to contain the disease.

In a statement issued by its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, FAAN said it was maintaining heightened vigilance across airports and coordinating its response with public health authorities to address potential health risks.

The authority stressed that the early identification of the confirmed case and the commencement of contact tracing highlighted the importance of established public health protocols, effective surveillance and cooperation among relevant agencies.

FAAN said it would continue to follow guidance from health authorities and support additional measures considered necessary to protect passengers, airport workers and the general public.

It also urged travellers, airport users, airlines and other aviation stakeholders to remain calm, vigilant and cooperative with health officials as containment efforts continue.

The authority advised the public to obtain information from verified sources and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports that could cause unnecessary panic.

FAAN reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant agencies to safeguard public health while ensuring the safe and uninterrupted operation of Nigeria’s airports.
