Falconets Knocked Out of U-20 Women’s World Cup After Colombia Defeat

Sally Jones 1 min read

Nigeria’s Falconets have been eliminated from the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in their quarter-final clash in Łódź, Poland, on Sunday.

The Nigerian side battled throughout the encounter but were unable to find the breakthrough, as Colombia scored late to secure a place in the semi-finals.

Despite being reduced to 10 players, the Falconets continued to push forward in search of an equaliser and created pressure during stoppage time. However, Colombia held on to protect their lead and end Nigeria’s campaign.

Head coach Moses Aduku described the defeat as painful, with the result ending the Falconets’ hopes of reaching the semi-finals for the first time since 2014.

Nigeria had entered the quarter-final with confidence following an impressive 3-0 victory over England in the Round of 16, but their strong tournament run came to an end against Colombia.

Colombia will now meet the winner of the quarter-final between North Korea and Canada for a place in the final.
