Nigeria and Germany have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with Germany pledging additional investment and both countries agreeing to expand cooperation in renewable energy, digital innovation and security.
The commitment was reached during high-level discussions in Abuja, where officials from both countries explored ways to deepen economic cooperation and promote sustainable development.
Germany reaffirmed its interest in supporting investment across key sectors of the Nigerian economy, while both governments agreed to strengthen collaboration on the energy transition, digital transformation and security.
The renewed partnership comes as Nigeria seeks to attract more foreign direct investment (FDI) to accelerate economic growth, diversify its economy and improve critical infrastructure. Germany remains one of Nigeria’s leading trading partners in Europe, with cooperation spanning energy, manufacturing, agriculture, vocational education and development programmes.
According to officials, bilateral trade between Nigeria and Germany has increased by 10 per cent, reflecting stronger commercial ties and growing investor confidence.
Both countries also reaffirmed their commitment to advancing renewable energy initiatives, with Germany expected to continue supporting projects aimed at improving energy access, promoting climate resilience and encouraging private-sector participation in Nigeria’s clean energy sector.
The two governments pledged to maintain close engagement in areas of mutual interest, including economic development, innovation, security cooperation and regional stability.
